The Ultimate Upcycled Tshirt Tutorial List

TrashN2Tees hopes that by rocking recycled threads we can encourage and inspire others to consume less and recycle more. The Ultimate Upcycled Tshirt Tutorial List is a compilation of the creative, unique, and fun tutorials that will help keep clothing out of the landfill and keep you, your little ones, and your home looking chic and cool. I showcased just a few right here on the blog and you will find the rest of the tutorials on my The Ulitmate Upcycled Tshirt Tutorial List board on Pinterest. Please feel free to pin/repin and share the list and of course I'd love to add more- do you have a favorite tutorial to share? Let me know and I'll add it!

DIY: Iphone Wristlet

I had an awesome surprise from the mister this Christmas- a brand spankin new Iphone. Now let me explain that before this phone my outdated mobile device was a razor flip phone, not smart by any means. I've quickly fallen in love with the idea of having everything right in the palm of my hands- quite literally. We had discussed the benefits of getting a smart phone for the business... being able to accept credit cards at fairs, disable items listed on etsy as they sell at a venue, and lightning mcqueen responses to inquiries just to mention a few.
But I was still really shocked when we actually got new phones! Now I've already outfitted my phone with an otterbox cover but wanted a safe wristlet/wallet to be able to carry my phone and cards.
This was one of my favorite shirts- until it had a run in with dryer & an orange crayon. I simply outlined the phone over the chest pocket, cut it out- cut a length of hem to use as a wrist loop and added a zipper. It's cute and functional.

I hope you all had an awesome holiday season that was filled with some magical surprises. I'll have some fun announcements to share later on this week including the reveal of my newsletter (yay!) and the introduction of a new item to my jewelry line. I'm also working on a blog post with the best mom/wahm/biz apps- so if you have a favorite for work or play please share it below! I love hearing from you!

Upcycled Tshirt Notebook Tutorial

-Popsicle Stick
-Composition-style notebook or sketchbook (any book with a boardbook-style cover)
Make it:
1. Lay the book open on the T-shirt (arrange it over the featured logo or design). Cut through just one layer of the shirt, about 2″ outside the edge of the notebook.
2. Lay the T-shirt panel face down on your work surface. Apply glue liberally across the front cover of the book.
Spread a thin and even layer over the book cover using a popsicle stick. Be sure the glue reaches the edges, but avoid getting any glue on the pages.
3. Fold the T-shirt fabric over the front cover and press it evenly into the glue.
4. Flip the notebook and spread glue across the spine and back cover. Then pull the remaining T-shirt fabric over the back cover, smoothing any wrinkles. Let it dry. Optional: Press the notebook between heavy textbooks to keep it flat!

5. Trim the fabric around the edges of the book cover. Use glue to touch up any edges that are pulling away from the fabric.
I'm excited to publish this tutorial on my blog for the first time- it was originally featured in the Back To School (2011)  issue of Green Child Magazine. This is the perfect project for back to school or even a creative (or top secret) journal.

Fresh Off the Scissors

Valentine's Day is just around the corner- I've been adding some sweet additions to the shop this past week and have a few more designs up my sleeves. As you might already know, I don't particularly like to design (holiday specific) tees- I want you to be able to buy, wear, and love your TNTees all year long! If you have a design you'd like to see, I'm always interested. You can email me or just leave a comment below!
