New Style vs. Old Style A Guide to BERNINA Feet & What Machines They Fit
If I had a nickel for every time I've seen this question posted. "Do the new style feet fit a 1260?" Trust me, I've asked a few times myself. Today, I'm publishing you a straight forward look at what BERNINA presser feet styles fit which BERNINA sewing machines.
Let's talk a little about the presser feet- if you're not familiar with BERNINA that's okay. The foot design changed with the development of automatic needle threading capabilities on machines. In addition, the stitch width increased from 4.5mm (ie-930s) to 5.5mm (ie-440s), and then from 5.5mm to 9mm (ie- most Artistas) generation of feet. "Old Style" feet have white stickers with black numbers on the shank. "New Style" feet have white stickers with red numbers on the shank. (There's also a generation of really old feet which have the numbers engraved on the shank.)

I hope this guide helps you on your journey- whether you are discovering new accessories to use or buying a machine. Understanding what feet fit which machine became more interesting to me in the past few months as I searched for a quality used BERNINA sewing machine to add to my fleet here in the studio. If you don't already know- I love my presser feet and shared the Top 10 Presser Feet You Need last year on We All Sew. I'll be sharing more about what was important to me and dishing out tips that might be helpful next week, here, on the blog.

Great article! Thank you! Neither of my machines were on your list though. Nor are their feet appearance. I have a Bernina 730 Record which came complete with all its original feet which are all steel, rounded shanks with no stickers or engravings or other markings. This machine used the old style feet. The other machine is a 811 Sport which only had one foot when I acquired it. The foot is similar to the ones that came with the 730 Record. This machine also uses the old style feet. Both machines are pre-1998 as are most machines that used the old style feet with the exception of a few post-1996 machines that had a wider zig zag width, which then use the new feet. It seems the stitch width is the primary factor in Bernina changing the foot style, though they have tried to keep them reverse compatible to some extent.
ReplyDeleteThey are both there.....730 and 811... unless this list has been updated recently.
