About

About Me:
Hi! I'm Jenelle. Though these days I am most frequently referred to as Mommy, I used to hold such titles as President, Waitress, College Student, Mud Bog Racer, and I even donned a big furry cat suit in high school as Suzy Stateliner- the school mascot! Between crushing cars with Monster Jam trucks, judging silly dance contests, and those other less fun household chores... I rescue clothing and textiles from our landfills. I've been called a recycling and repurposing revolutionary. I am here to not only encourage and inspire you to consume less and recycle more but to transform discarded materials into wearable, practical, fun, personalized and stylish works of art. When we find creative ways to repurpose what we no longer need we can inject color, texture, personality, and wonder into our lives and communities. The average American throws away 68 pounds of clothing each each. Stop!! Take 2 steps away from the garbage bag and listen up- 98% of clothes thrown into the landfills can be recycled, I’ll one up that though- because 100% can be repurposed and recycled. I've established a clothing recycling program for my customers called TrashN2Cash, which offers both incentives and an outlet for recycling unwanted, worn out, and stained clothing. With the expansion of my clothing recycling program & along with the great partnerships TrashN2Tees has diverted more than 20 ton of clothing from the landfill.

While my main focus on clothing recycling, raising awareness, and taking action- I am extremely passionate about protecting the environment. There is an alerting matter of environmental destruction taking place every single day. I'm here to change the face of recycling. It's not about dropping your cans, bottles, and newspapers into a bin. It's not about using canvas bags. It's about changing the way you see things. On my blog http://trashn2tees.blogspot.com I share tips & tutorials on reusing anything from electrical wire (to make bracelets) and dryer lint (playdoh recipe included) to stylish remodeling of clothing. A current project of mine includes the development of an smart phone app that will give you repurposing inspiration right at your finger tips.

Why should I recycle my clothing?
Fact:  Textile and clothing waste takes up more than 5% of our municipal waste stream!
Clothing and textiles can become commercial wiping rags or processed back into fibers that are then remanufactured into paper, yarn, insulation, carpet padding, sound proofing, etc.
Recycling vs. manufacturing has many "green" benefits, including:
Recycling textiles protects the environment from exposure to tons of harsh chemicals, waste products and waste water used in the manufacturing vs. recycling process of clothing.

Are the tshirts reclaimed or just the materials used for the appliques?
All the fabric is reclaimed- both the fabric used for appliques and the shirts themselves. Materials used to create TrashN2Tees designs & tshirts are hand picked and collected through TrashN2Cash, local collections, or purchased at thrift stores.

My intentions for this blog are to enlighten, inspire, and encourage folks to recycle. more. often. I don't think your a bad person if you have failed to install solar panels on the top of your house, or buy a hybrid car. (I haven't either) You're certainly not a bad parent for feeding your family produce from the grocery store or if cloth diapers gross you out.
