Peek inside the new studio...

The Process of Moving: Old Studio

I think it is safe to say we are finally settling into the new home and routines. And the whole move kind of knocked me on my rear end- I envisioned this smooth transition, so confident I even waited until the 2 days before driving to pack up the studio. What the hell was I thinking?!!

No exaggerating when I tell you, I have not touched my sewing machine in almost 2 weeks (that will change today!) It's depressing right? So what have I been doing? Well... unpacking some, trying to get the new studio situated some, drinking a lot of Dunkin Donuts coffee, and eating a lot of pizza.

Oh yes, and I started homeschooling the boys too!

I've been trying to work out the routine of schooling in the morning, working in the afternoon. However the new studio is on the 3rd floor... which means the boys are either on the first or 2nd and I can't hear or see them. I thought I was way past the days of baby monitors but I think that I'll be picking some up this week.

  1. Girl, moving is crazy! We moved almost 700 miles recently and I totally underestimated the amount of work it was going to be. But fast forward almost a year and a half later- and we love it!

Homeschooling is not my world but working at home is late nights and early morning round ups. It's a trade off. Somedays are pj days. Yes, on occasion I have been known to work in my pj's.

  2. Ah yes, pajama days- those are rather glorious in their own right aren't they Heather?! I'm glad to hear that after all the moving hub-bub you're loving the new place.

  3. Have you registered your homeschool with the state? PA has guidelines that must be followed...not sure if you knew that. Also not sure if you know that Easton schools are just fine...all of them :)

    1. Thanks Tami, I am aware of the PA guidelines for homeschooling. I'm not against public schools (Easton Area or otherwise) I choose to homeschool because it's what I feel its what is best for my children.

  4. We homeschool, and I make Upcycled clothing from home, so yeah, I hear you. It does take time to find balance. I mostly sew at night when my boys are in bed. I have three boys. But on occasion I will find pockets of time during the day, when I can sew. I will also bring up materials to cut while the boys are doing their thing so I can still be close to them. I'm sure things have changed a bit for you now, because this is an old post, but I thought it would be nice to connect:)

    1. Hi Jamie! I'm thrilled to have you here. Many of my mom/biz/friends find time to sew late night. I can't seem to pull that off. I've managed to find a groove (a flexible one) If I wake up early around 5:30/6am I can sneak into my studio & work on emails or prep school stuff. I have about 2 hours to get labels printed or sewing to do. We do breakfast, school, errands in the morning and I've been able to get back in the studio for a few hours before starting dinner. Connect anytime- I'm on Twitter @TrashN2Tees and www.facebook.com/trashn2tees would love to learn more about you, your business, family, and school!

  6. I feel you. I have three boys that learn from the world around the (homeschool) and I make Upcycled clothing from home. It certainly takes time to find balance. Most of my sewing is done in the evenings when the boys are in bed, but on occasion I find pockets of time during the day when I can zip downstairs to my studio to squeeze in some sewing.
